New York food store / restaurant report:

Eataly - food emporium at 200 5th Avenue and 23rd Street

As you enter early from 5th ave across the street from Madison square park you are immediately immersed in all things Italian when it comes to food and drink. Just inside the door you find the Lavazza cafe serving excellent espresso drinks with small snacks. Just beyond, Italian desserts are beckoning with the wonderful smells, and this is before you enter the main hall of what makes Eataly such a great food place.

In the crossroad of the emporium you will find the La Piazza stand up bar where you enjoy cheese and meat plates with you glass of wine. Venturing further in you find the three other restaurants offer everything Italian; Manzo restaurant for meats, Fish, and Pasta & Pizza pizza.
Only the Manzo accepts advance reservations, so after you put you name in on the list, you have 20-30 minutes to explore the other food and drink shops and perhaps pick up la few things for later.

Come spring and warmer weather, you will find many new Yorkers stopping by to pick up picnic food and drinks for a leisurely lunch in Madison square park. Eataly just opened last august but is already very popular among locals as well as visitors. The Italian food emporium has help lift up the whole neighborhood, helping not only the locals with 500 new jobs but also supporting all the local growers as well shoppers and diners with small as well as large wallets.

If you are in the area, I highly recommend a stop for a meal or some snacks.

Continental Airlines flight report:

23 APRIL
CONTINENTAL AIRLINES - FLIGHT 1829
DEPART - SAN FRANCISCO 10.20PM
ARRIVE - NEW YORK -NEWARK 6.34AM THE FOLLOWING MORNING

The SFO security line was short, so we passed through quickly.

The boarding was similar to most domestic flights where 60%
of the passengers boarded early due to high mileage status.
This meant that by the time the rest of us boarded, the overhead bins
were almost full.

The rest of the passengers boarded by row numbers with 3 rows at the time.
It took a long time, but was orderly.

The flight arrival was almost on time, and we continued into Manhattan
via Newark Airport bus ($15/p).
The bus picked us up just outside the terminal and dropped us off at
Bryant Park, but also stopped at Port Authority on 41st Street and Grand Central Station for easy access to taxis.

25 APRIL
CONTINENTAL AIRLINES - FLIGHT 702
DEPART - NEW YORK/NEWARK 4.55PM
ARRIVE - SAN FRANCISCO 7.50PM

The security for Continental at Newark has three separate areas depending on your departure gate. All had a wait time of 30-45min - do not arrive late!

We had several food outlets to choose from for 'to-go' meals, though Continental served a free chicken sandwich and salad. They will stop free meal service in Oct. 2010. Head phones cost $3 unless you brought your own. They are working on adding seat monitors but have so far only
completed most 737-900 Boeing aircrafts.

Inflight service was good, except for during boarding when they did not take action to check roller bags that did not fit in the overhead bins. This meant that several pax tried to move against boarding traffic to get the bags back to the door to be checked. This resulted in a 20min
delayed departure.

The seats were very comfortable for economy seats and had headrest wings and the seat cushion moved froward slightly when the seat back was reclined making for a more comfortable sitting position. Blankets were found on the seats on the outbound red-eye, but none could
be found on the return flight.

Extra leg room seats (exit row, bulk head) were sold at check in for $69
each.
